- Science - 800
- Mathematics - 800
- Language Arts Reading 800
Congratulations once again, and I'm sure your teachers are pleased and proud of your achevements.
Congratulations Warren and Thank you NYC
HANAC staff and friends, congratulates Warren Keith (class GHE; a GED class under Mr. N. Stevens) on passing the test and getting the Cerificate in Food Protecton. He took this course online. The city has offered this course free online on a limited time, which would have cost him $105.00 had he chosen the teacher/classroom option.
The 15 lessons online was rigid to say the least. It has time and grade requirements. A score of 100 is required before moving up to the next lessons. He is the first among a number of students from our site who enrolled for the online option.

The 2009 GED Graduation
Picture this:
“I messed up somewhere along the way and I truly regretted it. Lost time is lost time and I can’t go on regretting what had been. Now I write my own history by going back to school, right the wrong by focusing on my classes. Finally the moment came. This diploma is the first step towards a more meaningful life for me and my family.”
That was the common denominator for all of the smiling faces who graduated. Will you be next?????

Fausto Bernal writes...
I want a palm tree and your kisses
and fresh strawberry as your caress
I want also a rain falling white,
white when you are dreaming
and rose when you are just playing
I want a sun that is brighter
and a moon that is forever tender
and some friends and some angels
I want a paradise with all my heart.

Afterthought....
Where was United States? Up to midnight last night, the top US class was hanging on to 10th place and when it's all over it dropped to 17th place. Still not bad considering that there were 20,000 schools in total.
The top 10 classes were all Malaysia, except the 7th placer which was Tevitol High class 9 from Turkey. Like any international event, flag Malaysia was all over. along with Turkey.
Two new words I learned: mathometer & mathletes

National Reading Day - March 2, 2009
Are we doing something special to motivate our students to read for themselves and to their children?
For 12 years now, NEA The National Education Association annually sponsors Read Across America. Let's log in to: http://www.nea.org/ to get some help and use some of their resources that they're suggesting we can; my choice is the certificate for the adult who will read to a child.
PS to National Reading Day-
We're snowed out and we have extra time to devote to reading.

Invitation
What's in you February
You might be an afterthought too; you see, you're the last month along with January that was added to the Roman calendar. Your history doesn't even specify when you got on the calendar but it's sometime around 700 BC. And to make it even more interesting winter was regarded then as a monthless season.
And yet.....
You are filled with events, holidays, rituals around the world, healthy competition for the cheapest tours and travel , fun filled holidays, ice sculpting, cleansing rituals, dancing and practices to drive off the demons and anything unlucky in other countries and a disclaimer that festivities are subject to change without notice - check with your agents.
Here are your events:
Groundhog Day: February 2 United States and Canada
National Foundation Day in Japan: February 11
Valentine's Day: February 14
Flag Day of Canada: February 15
Presidents Day (United States, third Monday)
Dominican Republic Independence: February 27
Liberation Day (Kuwait) February 26
Leap Day: February 29 (Every 4 years, with some exceptions)
Black History Month (Canada and United States)
On a troublesome note, strict accountability of anything that translates to the troubled economy, bailouts, increasing jobless numbers, increasing numbers of financial institutions crying out for more federal help, businesses closing, and even school hours. School hours! This too needs to be accounted for in its exactitude never before as astringent as this. Take this as a friendly reminder.
Your flower is violet and your stone amethyst. They're lovely I must admit.
On a personal note, it's at this month that my tolerance is tested. I can't wait for spring. This is the longest shortest month to bear until I will be surrounded by the greens all around and the blazing sun to soothe the winter blues away. This quote is a big help and it might be to you too.
"February is merely as long as is needed to pass the time until March."- Dr. J. R. Stockton
