Let's Move!

Yes, that's the First Lady, Michelle Obama's initiative to encourage everyone to live a healthy life to realize full potentials.

Today, her 'Let's Move Hangout' had the first virtual chat moderated by Kelly Ripa went on the web. I watched it, it's very informative, and amazing to realize how many joined the chat from all walks of life; third graders, professionals, parents, fitness believers and just about anyone who  believes that health is one common denominator to achieve success and fulfillment in life.

If you didn't watch it, just go online; but before you go, consider this stats from FRAC, (Food Research and Action Center). Two -thirds of US adults are overweight and one-fourth of US children 2-5 years old and adolescents are; too. That's a real reason for concern and it will really impact America's future. Now— Let's Move!!!

Dear Mama — by Maria Pou

On this special day I am proud to call you my mother. From the day you choose to bring me into this world I knew you already loved me. For God placed us in this world as mother and daughter. I am forty six today and I love you more today but not any less than the day you brought me into this world Mama, I love you.... You gave me your heart and in return I want to be exactly like you; the Best Mother ever. I am so proud to be called your daughter; for I belong to you Mrs. Wharton. –Maria Pou is from class WHR and she's a student of Mr. Junior Johnson.

As we live our lives, we make mistakes and try fixing them. Education seems to be a game of tag: "Tag you're it, No, tag you're it." I've been untagged for so long, but now tagged again, getting a second chance with my GED. This time around I'll finish my game of tag with strength and courage. I'll smile to the end cause this time I'm going to be smarter and happier, and finish my game of tag. –Brenda Santos of class WHN is one of the students of Ms. Carla Halle. Brenda's work made the cut for the yearly presentation of Symphony Space called 'All Write!' Congratulations!!!

hello!

Hello, I'm back. Thanks to g blogger for keeping our blog as it is until I revisit it. Ha ha I feel so privileged. Sorry for the long absence. I think I'm trying to show that absence makes the heart grow fonder; or does it really.

A Time for Reflection

Thanksgiving is a time for reflection
Remembering a time of the first celebration
When our ancestors came onto new soil,
Escaping torment and old world toils.

This new land was so unknown
No resemblance to the old world that
They once called home.
Yet they worked and explored
And after some time
Noticed that their harvest would not be so fine.

With the cold coming in
And so small a blessing
They prayed for divine intervention
And behold
Form a forest
Not yet accustomed to exploration
Came a people, no stranger to hesitation,
To see this curious lot.

They brought with them food
And greetings of goodwill
Knowledge of the land
Where to plant
What to crop.

And within a year the new ones sat
With these that taught them so
And togethr they welcomed a
New tradition
One that to us now is so old.
But the story is told
From year to year,
Of how our ancestors came and the Indians that
helped to alleviate their fears
And so is the tradition of THANKSGIVNG.

Summer 2011

..........and one day I woke up and it was the first weekend of summer.

I have picked up a few quotes for you to start your summer right; hopefully.

" Then followed that beautiful season....Summer.....
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood." ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow~

"Summer afternoon - summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English Language." ~Henry James~

"Love is to the heart what the summer is to the farmer's year - it brings to harvest all the loveliest flowers of the soul." ~Author Unknown~

After going through them, is there one that pulled your heart strings; what does summer mean to you anyway?

Double click at this link to see if there is something that would inspire you, that would set you up to capture one of summer's delight.
