Invitation

May I have the pleasure of your company???? Just accept my invitation, you don't have to make travel arrangement, buy a gift, or buy a new outfit to wear. Take it from one who is always challenged with limitations. This month brings out one of them; writing. Writing is not my natural gift and yet I have to face the challenge of scribbling out one to start the Hanac-nyc125 take off the digital runway.

What's in you February

You're the shortest month consisting only of 28 days except when it's a leap year that you get to be 29, still short of 30 or 31. The song says that you are for little people, will you agree to that?

You might be an afterthought too; you see, you're the last month along with January that was added to the Roman calendar. Your history doesn't even specify when you got on the calendar but it's sometime around 700 BC. And to make it even more interesting winter was regarded then as a monthless season.

And yet.....

You are filled with events, holidays, rituals around the world, healthy competition for the cheapest tours and travel , fun filled holidays, ice sculpting, cleansing rituals, dancing and practices to drive off the demons and anything unlucky in other countries and a disclaimer that festivities are subject to change without notice - check with your agents.

Here are your events:

Groundhog Day: February 2 United States and Canada
National Foundation Day in Japan: February 11
Valentine's Day: February 14
Flag Day of Canada: February 15
Presidents Day (United States, third Monday)
Dominican Republic Independence: February 27
Liberation Day (Kuwait) February 26
Leap Day: February 29 (Every 4 years, with some exceptions)
Black History Month (Canada and United States)

On a troublesome note, strict accountability of anything that translates to the troubled economy, bailouts, increasing jobless numbers, increasing numbers of financial institutions crying out for more federal help, businesses closing, and even school hours. School hours! This too needs to be accounted for in its exactitude never before as astringent as this. Take this as a friendly reminder.

Your flower is violet and your stone amethyst. They're lovely I must admit.

On a personal note, it's at this month that my tolerance is tested. I can't wait for spring. This is the longest shortest month to bear until I will be surrounded by the greens all around and the blazing sun to soothe the winter blues away. This quote is a big help and it might be to you too.

"February is merely as long as is needed to pass the time until March."- Dr. J. R. Stockton
